Sublimated Club Kits

Sublimation puts the colour into the fibre. Nothing sits on the surface, so nothing peels, cracks or lifts at the edges — which is exactly what heat-pressed numbers do after a season of scrums and tumble dryers.

It also removes the cost penalty for complexity. Hoops, quarters, gradients, a sponsor panel on each sleeve and a different number on every shirt all cost the same as a plain shirt, because it is one print either way.

The catch is that sublimation needs a polyester-rich fabric, so it is not available on the traditional cotton weave. If you want heritage cloth, decoration is embroidery or twill applique instead, and we will say so before you design around it.

Why not heat-pressed numbers?

They lift. The edges curl after enough washes and enough scrums, and by mid-season half the squad has a number peeling at the corner. Sublimated numbers are part of the cloth and cannot do that.

Can you sublimate a cotton jersey?

No, and anybody who says otherwise is about to disappoint you. Sublimation bonds to polyester. On the traditional cotton weave the decoration is embroidery or twill applique, which is what it has always been.
